Ball State Hands MSU a 3-2 Field Hockey Loss
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Ball State's field hockey squad snapped Michigan State's four-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory in Muncie, Ind.
After the Cardinals (2-2) opened up a 2-0 lead in the first half, MSU's Gretchen Doherty responded by notching her first goal of the season. Assisted by senior Rayna Hiscox, Doherty slapped one by the BSU net-minder with 6:23 left in the half, as Michigan State (4-2) closed the gap to 2-1 at halftime.
Midway through the second half, Ball State scored the eventual game-winner, as Jeanine Boggie scored to put BSU up 3-1. Michigan State picked up its final tally with 28 seconds remaining, as senior Ann Berberich scored her sixth goal of the season.
Despite making 16 saves, MSU goal keeper Beth George absorbed the loss, as she has been credited with all six of the Spartansi decisions. Hiscox has picked up a point in each of the last five games, leading the team with 18 points this season (eight goals, two assists).
The loss ends Michigan Stateis two-game winning streak over the Cardinals, as MSU is now 3-10-2 against Ball State.
The Spartans open the home portion of their schedule, as they host Kent (9/16) and Central Michigan (9/17) at the Duffy Daugherty Indoor Facility. Each game is slated for an 8 p.m. start.
