Iowa Edges Michigan State Field Hockey

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Iowa's Quan Nim scored two goals 48 seconds apart early in the first half, accounting for the only scores of the game in the Hawkeyes' 2-0 victory against Michigan State at Spartan Stadium.

Michigan State drops to 7-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten, after beating Northwestern 3-2 in overtime on Friday. Iowa wins their first conference match of the season, as they evened their record to 4-4, 1-1 in the Big Ten.

A defensive struggle, Spartan goalkeeper held her own in net, stopping nine shots and raising her Big Ten-leading save percentage to .800. The MSU defense held the Big Ten's second-leading scorer Kerry Lessard scoreless, after she had exploded for ten goals in two games last weekend.

The loss continues Michigan State's 32-game losing streak against Iowa, as MSU has never beaten the Hawkeyes. The two hook up in Iowa City, Iowa, on Oct. 17.

The 12th-ranked Spartans return home this Friday, Oct. 3, as they host St. Louis in a non-conference affair. They follow that up with a home date against Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 5.
