EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State junior field hockey standout Melissa Pryor (Ann Arbor) has been named to the 1998 GTE Academic All-District IV Fall/Winter University Division At-Large Second-Team.

Pryor, a two-year starter on defense for the Spartans, carrries a 3.80 grade-point average in social relations. A five-time Dean's List honoree, she has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors twice and was named to the 1997 NFHCA All-Academic squad.

Pryor earned First-Team Midwest/West Regional All-America and Second-Team All-Big Ten honors in 1997 after guiding the Spartans to an 11-10 record. She led the team with six defensive saves in 1997 and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after helping the Spartans defeat national power Iowa (3-1) in the conference tourney.

The GTE Academic All-District Team is made up of 10 student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee competing in 10 fall or winter sports. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
