Field Hockey Welcomes Back Alumni
April 17, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State field hockey team had the opportunity to host 19 former MSU field hockey players this weekend for its second annual alumni scrimmage. Players from many different teams returned back to campus to reconnect with former teammates and to get to know the current field hockey team.
"This was our second alumni game and we doubled in numbers which I was very pleased with," commented head coach Helen Knull. "When I was appointed head coach, improving alumni relations was something that was at the top of my list. In the past 12 months we have been trying to connect with alums through team and staff projects and I am excited to say we have had a great response. It is important for the current team to learn about the foundation and traditions of MSU field hockey and those who were in their shoes 10, 20 or even 30 years ago."
The festivities kicked off with an alumni game in which the former players scrimmaged against the current team. A lunch was then held in the Varsity S Club which was followed by a tour of Spartan Stadium, the Clara Bell Smith Center, the Duffy Daugherty football building, and the MSU field hockey locker room. The alumni and the current players got to swap stories of practices and games during a social which took place at night.
"It was wonderful to see the Spartan connection between the current and former players," said Knull. "I know that many new friendships were formed and others reunited. Michigan State University is a special place and hearing the alums sharing their experience with the current generation was entertaining and well received. It was a wonderful event and I am already looking forward to next year."
The following is a list of all the alumni, along with the year they graduated, that came back to partake in the alumni scrimmage.
