Field Hockey Adds Four to Incoming Class

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State field hockey program announced that it will welcome four international student-athletes to the roster for the 2018 season. Aïsha Osinga (Zeist, The Netherlands), Jade Arundell (County Kildare, Ireland), Isa van der Weij (Bussum, The Netherlands), and Daphne Voorman (Laren, The Netherlands) will enroll at Michigan State University next fall to play field hockey for the Spartans.
 
"We are pleased to have completed the 2018 incoming class with a group of talented and well-rounded individuals who have the ability to impact the team from day one. They are not just talented hockey players, but a great group of young women who will contribute to Michigan State University on the field, in the classroom and in the community. We would like to welcome Aïsha, Isa, Daphne and Jade, who signed during the April signing period as they are joining Monique, Paige, Lori and Maddie to round out the class."


 
Daphne Voorman
Laren, The Netherlands • Joke Smit College • Defender/Midfielder
 
Prior to MSU: Co-Captain of her A1 club team, Laren LMHC ... Invited to do selection training for the Dutch National Team in 2015 ... Played at the highest level at every age; A1, B1, C1 and D1 ... Two-time selection for the Dutch U16 and U18 National Team ... Laren LMHC Club Team finished third in the Netherlands in the A1 and B1 categories ... Attended Joke Smit College.
 
Personal: Daughter of Thorvald and Dorine ... Sister to Sebastiaan and Oliver.
 
Knull on Voorman:
"Daphne comes to East Lansing from Laren Hockey Club where she has been a co-captain of her team. Daphne is a poised and confident defender who possesses excellent passing and solid individual defense. I expect Daphne to make an impact on our backfield/midfield line this upcoming season."






Aïsha Osinga
Zeist, The Netherlands • Openbaar Lyceum Zeist • Forward
 
Prior to MSU: Participated in the Go USA Field Hockey Showcase in 2017 ... Played for the MA1 Schaerweijde club ... Multi-sport athlete, participating in gymnastics, skiing, swimming, judo, gold, tennis, snowboarding and breakdancing ... Played A1, B1, C1 and D1 field hockey throughout her career.
 
Personal: Daughter of Gerbrand Osinga and Nancy Osinga-Moorrees ... Sister to Quentin and Raven Osinga.
 
Knull on Osinga:
"Aïsha is a one of three players joining the Spartans from The Netherlands. She has played the past five seasons at Schaerweijde Hockey Club. Aïsha is a very dynamic and fast attacker who has a great game sense for scoring. She is explosive on and off ball and we are looking forward to adding her speed and attacking threat to the team."





 
Isa van der Weij
Bussum, The Netherlands • Sint Vitus College • Forward/Midfielder
 
Prior to MSU: Played for the Gooische Hockey Club ... Was a member of the A1, B1, C1 and D1 squads ... Won the outdoor championship on her GHC B1 National League team in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons ... Earned a second place finish in the regional indoor championship participating in the top league in 2013-14.
 
Personal: Daughter of Ids van der Weij and Lineke Haanstra ... Sister to Hide and Jelle.
 
Knull on van der Weij:
"Isa is a highly competitive player joining us from Gooische Hockey Club. Isa is the type of player who is not going to give up until the ball is in the goal. She plays with intensity and tenacity to compete and push those around her. She is a strong and powerful attacker who plays with flair and guts. Isa has the ability to play on the forward line or midfield which will add versatility to the squad."





 
Jade Arundell
County Kildare, Ireland • The Kings Hospital • Goalkeeper
 
Prior to MSU: Winner of three north Dublin and two Interprovincials for Leinster ... Runner up in the Claudia Tierney Cup ... Named the best goalkeeper at both the HOD tournament and the Sports Ways Barcelona Camp in 2017 ... Captain of her Kings Hospital School hockey and rugby teams.
 
Personal: Daughter of Freda Neill and Richard Arundell ... Sister to Joshua.
 
Knull on Arundell:
"We are continuing on the tradition of goalkeepers from Kings Hospital School in Ireland, as Jade hails from the same school as Katie Miller. Jade is an experienced goalkeeper who has played Ireland U16, U18 and is currently on the U21 squad. We are excited to welcome Jade to the Spartan goalkeeping unit along with fellow freshman Mo Jardell."
