EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State head coach Helen Knull has announced that Jennifer Sciulli has been added to the Spartan field hockey staff for the upcoming season.  In addition, Molly Maloney has been promoted to the program’s top assistant coaching position.

“I have had a chance to work with and get to know Jenn for a few years now – both as a coach and a player,” said Knull.  “From day one I was very impressed with her demeanor as a coach in a group and one-on-one setting. Jenn has a long list of accomplishments as a player and knows how to be successful on and off the field in the Big Ten Conference. Her resume speaks for itself and I know she has a lot to offer to the players, coaching staff and program.”

“Molly’s dedication, loyalty, commitment and passion for the team has been relentless in all facets of the program,” added Knull. “I am thrilled to have Molly continue her coaching career at MSU as we all strive to bring home another Big Ten Championship and be the first women’s team to bring a National Championship to East Lansing.”

Sciulli was a four year varsity starter for Ohio State from 2008-2011 where she received many accolades. The record holder for most starts in a career, she was a First Team All-American and First Team All-Big Ten selection her senior year. She was no stranger to success at Ohio State, where her team went 57-28 in her four years on campus, including being a member of the 2010 Big Ten Championship team which reached the NCAA semi-finals.

Sciulli possesses many great qualities such as leadership and sportsmanship that stood out during her time at Ohio State, where she was a team captain and selected for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

For the past three summers, she has been working on Michigan State’s campus as part of the summer camp coaching staff, teaching fundamental skills to middle and high school players. Last season, Sciulli served as a student assistant coach at OSU before graduating in December with a degree in Speech and Hearing sciences.

“I am exceptionally pleased to have the coaching staff finalized and to be able to formally announce Molly’s promotion and Jenn’s hiring,” said Knull.  “We cannot wait to get the team together and kick off preseason.”

The Spartans report for fall camp this week, and host an exhibition with Michigan on Saturday, Aug. 24 against the University of Michigan.  MSU’s complete fall schedule can be found here.
