EAST LANSING, Mich. -- - Redshirted junior Molly Cassidy was an intern over the summer at WXYZ-Channel 7, a news station that covers Metro Detroit.  Cassidy worked with anchor JoAnne Purtan, Michigan State alumna, and ran the teleprompter for Katie Couric.

While interning, Cassidy assisted Purtan with writing broadcast stories, posting stories online, as well as shadowed her for interviews and broadcast tapings.  Cassidy also shadowed reporters while working with the investigative team.

"One day at WXYZ they needed someone to work the teleprompter.  I remembered that our strength coach Eric Bean teaches us pressure is a privilege, so I volunteered," said Cassidy.  "I succeeded and was invited to fill in on the teleprompter as needed.  When Katie Couric visited WXYZ, they asked me to help out."

Cassidy is beginning her fourth year in the School of Journalism this fall and hopes to work in the field of broadcast journalism after she graduates.  She became interested in WXYZ after moving to Michigan and hearing about their reputation and internships through friends.
