Becky Stiles Chosen For U21 Team

Becky Stiles

EAST LANSING, MICH. --  Michigan State field hockey player Becky Stiles has been chosen to be part of the United States Under 21 Junior National Field Hockey Squad that will compete in the Junior Pan American Games, which will be played Sept. 10-23, 2012.  Stiles was chosen as one of 18 athletes who will represent the U.S. and play in Guadalajara, Mexico

Her participation on the U21 team at Junior Pan American games means that Stiles will miss five games with the Spartans. However, the Pan American games conflict with just one Big Ten contest for MSU, the Sept. 21 game against Iowa. The bulk of MSU's Big Ten schedule is slated for after Stiles' return to the roster.

"I am thrilled for Becky that all of her hard work and dedication have paid off in her selection for the Junior Pan Americans," said head coach Helen Knull.  "We will miss her presence in our lineup while she is in Mexico.  However, the experiences she will have representing the USA will not only strengthen Becky as a player, but will also benefit the entire Michigan State field hockey program."

Stiles participated in the US Junior National Camp in July, held at the University of Massachusetts.  After completing the camp, she made the cut and was one of 30 athletes selected to be part of the U21 training camp in August at the University of Maryland.  Her performance at the camp led to her selection to the US team for the Junior Pan Am Games.  Stiles future goal is to be part of the World Cup in 2013.
