Oct. 31, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State redshirt senior Corey Block (Chelsea, Mich.) has been selected as part of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game. The game will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m. on the campus of Old Dominion University.
"I am thrilled for Corey that she gets to cap off her Spartan career playing in the Senior Game," said head coach Helen Knull. "It is a fantastic event when former opponents get to play as teammates. I know she will represent the Spartans with enthusiasm and pride not only for our institution but also for the Big Ten conference."
Block is one of 38 seniors to be chosen from Division I field hockey teams and one of nine from the Big Ten. This season, Block has started in 17 of 19 games for Michigan State and has tallied four shots for the Spartans. Block, a defenseman from Chelsea, Mich., has recorded three defensive saves and participated in 64 games in her Michigan State career. Block was a member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad from 2008-2011 and was honored in 2009, 2010, and 2011 as a member of the Academic All-Big Ten team.
The Senior Game participants will play in a series of four, 25 minute games.
