EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior midfielder Katherine Jamieson was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Conference office on Tuesday. Jamieson led the Spartans to a road victory at No. 18 Iowa on Saturday in the last regular season game of the year.
Jamieson had a hand in all four of the Spartans goals in the 4-3 victory over the Hawkeyes. Jamieson tallied her sixth assist of the season to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. Jamieson then scored the next three MSU goals, recording her first career hat trick. The scoring came with high efficiency, as her three goals came on three shots for the game. Jamieson is the third Spartan to record a hat trick this season, as teammates Allie Ahern and Abby Barker have also accomplished the feat.
"Katherine has been a critical piece of our corner execution and this past weekend she was calm, composed and ready on the rebounds," said head coach Helen Knull. "I couldn't be happier for one of our seniors to get their first career hat trick in the final game of the Big Ten regular season."
This is Jamieson's first offensive weekly honor, and first from the Big Ten since being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in 2010. This is the Spartans second weekly honor of the season, as Jenni Smith was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 15.
Michigan State is the No. 3 seed heading into the Big Ten Tournament, and face off with No. 6 seed Indiana on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
