EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State sophomore forward Abby Barker (Columbus, Ohio) has been recognized as 2012 Longstreth /National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Second-Team All-American.
“I am thrilled for Abby that she has been recognized nationally for her accomplishments this fall,” said head coach Helen Knull. “She was a leader for the team on the forward line and a threat in every game. She worked hard in the off-season to make her skill set more complete and her hard work paid off.”
The forward was one of five who started in all 20 games this season. Barker scored 18 of Michigan State’s 33 goals this season as well as assisted on three. This is her second consecutive season leading the Spartans in goals and points (39). She had five multiple-goal outings, scoring twice against Maine, Louisville, Indiana, Michigan and Central Michigan. Barker also had a career day against Indiana, scoring twice and assisting on a third tally in the 3-0 win.
Barker finished the season fourth in the Big Ten in goals (18) while ranking third in goals per game (0.90). She also ranked fifth in points (39) and sixth in points per game (1.95).
Barker previously has been named First-Team All-Big Ten, to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and Longstreth/ NFHCA First-Team All-West Region.
