Field Hockey Adds Four for 2018 Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State field hockey program has announced that it will welcome four incoming freshmen to the roster for the 2018 season.  Paige Ryan (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Lori Mack (Shaker Heights, Ohio), Monique Jardell (Columbus, Ohio), and Madeline McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.) will enroll at Michigan State University next fall to play field hockey for the Spartans.

“We are pleased to welcome Mo, Paige, Lori and Maddie to Michigan State,” said head coach Helen Knull. “They are a talented group who have shown a great deal of growth and maturity in their last two seasons of high school, and we are excited for their transition to the college game and teaching them the Spartan way.”

Paige Ryan

Pittsburgh, Pa. • Fox Chapel Area High School • Midfielder

Named the Chapel Field Hockey Forward of the Year in 2014, 2015 and 2016…All-Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (WPIAL) 2015 and 2016…Earned All-Section honors in 2014, 2015, and 2016…2016 Honorable Mention All-State…Played club hockey for the WC Eagles…Placed seventh in the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) National Snowboarding Competition in 2015…Played varsity lacrosse in 2015 and 2016…Scholar athlete award winner in 2015, 2016 and 2017…Awarded the Certificate of Distinction for Social Studies in 2016…Cumulative High Honor Award.

Lori Mack

Captain of her team in 2017… First-Team All-Ohio in 2017…State runner-up in 2016…2014 State Champion…2017 All-League selection…Played for the Coyotes club team…Named to the All-Conference team in 2015 and 2016…Team’s Most Valuable Player in 2015 and 2016…Earned Academic All-Ohio honors.

Knull on Mack:
“Lori is a hardworking, tough and determined player who brings competition and challenge every day. Like Mo Jardell, she had a fantastic senior season and was honored with All-Ohio recognition. She follows Kendal Anderson and Elizabeth Helffrich from Shaker Heights, Ohio to East Lansing.”

Monique Jardell

Columbus, Ohio • Granville High School • Goalkeeper

Four-time varsity letter-winner…Two-time varsity captain…First-Team all-league in 2016…First-Team All-Ohio in 2017…Ohio Field Hockey Coaches Association (FHCA) Academic All-Ohio honoree in 2015 and 2016…2016 Central Ohio FHCA Scholar Athlete award winner…Team Most Valuable Player in 2015 and 2016…Set multiple records for her high school, including most shutouts in a season (15), most saves in a game (28), most saves in a season (176), most career saves (577), best career save percentage (.900), and best save percentage in a season (.976)…Member of the National Honor Society and the National Latin Honor Society.

Knull on Jardell:
“Mo had an outstanding senior season where she garnered All-Ohio Honors. She has great size and mobility in the goal, we are excited to welcome her to the goalkeeping unit along with Mairi Fletcher for 2018.”

Four-year letter-winner…Product out of WC Field Hockey Club…U14 and U16 NCC Club Champion…U14 NIT first place…NIT U16 first place…U19 NIT second place…U16 NFC…District 1AAA state quarterfinalist…Also played ice hockey and lacrosse…Honors student.

Knull on McDonough:

“Maddie is a smart and skillful midfielder who comes from a strong field hockey family and program. Maddie has great game understanding and will join our midfield/forward group. Her older sister currently plays at University of Virginia and her twin sister will be also attending UVA.”
