Upcoming Events: Sat.-Sun, Sept. 27-28 in Lady Buckeye (Columbus, Ohio)
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: 10th/16 teams at Lady Northern
TENTH AT STATE COLLEGE: Michigan State embarked on its first road competition of the season last weekend and came away from State College, Pa., with a 10th-place finish in the 16-team Lady Northern. The tournament, which featured the 11 Big Ten programs plus five other schools, determines the seeding for the spring's Big Ten Championship. MSU finished ninth among Big Ten teams at te tournament.
THIS WEEK: Michigan State visits another Big Ten school this weekend, as the defending conference champion Ohio State Buckeyes host the Lady Buckeye in Columbus. Competition spans Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 27-28). FRESHMAN MAKES THE RANKS: Spartan freshman Kasey Gant has earned a spot in the first edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. Gant checks in at a tie for No. 20 in the rankings released Sept. 17. The rankings are determined by a points system.
LEADING THE WAY: Junior Meggan Schumaker fired an opening-round 76 at the Lady Northern and led the Spartans all weekend, finishing with a 76-77-81=234. Gant was not far off the pace, shooting an 82-78-78=238. Coming in third for MSU was junior Kellie Dennis, who bounced back from a disappointing 258 at the previous weekend's Mary Fossum Invitational to fire a 79-77-84-290.
