Spartans honored for their successes in the classroom.

Lorne Don is in his 10th year as an assistant coach of the Michigan State women's golf team.

Don assists head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll in all areas of the women's golf program, including serving as the tournament director for the Mary Fossum and Central District Invitationals, recruiting, and coordinating practice schedules for student-athletes.

"Lorne is such an integral part of our team," said Slobodnik-Stoll. "He's really progressed as a coach and does so many things for this program. He's also a great communicator and has a wonderful personality. He has so much experience heading into his 10th year. Lorne truly has a passion for Michigan State."

A four-year member of the Spartan men's team (1999-2003), Don earned MSU's Best First-Year Player award in 1999-2000. He closed his career with a 77.42 stroke average. The Toronto, Ontario, native, received his bachelor's degree in general management from Michigan State in May 2004.

As a senior in 2002-03, Don posted a 75.80 stroke average, including a season-best round of 71. His top finish of the season was a tie for 39th at the Fossum/TaylorMade Invitational in April, where he shot a three-round score of 228. In addition, he received MSU's Leadership Award following the season.

Prior to his arrival at MSU, Don was a four-year starter at Lawrence Park High School in Toronto, Ontario. Lawrence Park was undefeated all four years Don was a member, also winning the Toronto City Championship each year. Don won the individual city title in 1996 and 1997 and served as the team captain in 1997 and 1998. He also played hockey in high school, serving as the team captain as a senior.

In addition, the Spartan assistant won the 1998 AGJA Canadian Junior title. He finished tied for eighth at the 1999 Western Junior Championship and placed third at the 1998 Ontario Golf Association Junior Tournament.
