Qualified for the starting lineup and tied for 80th at the Tar Heel Invitational (73-79-82--234) . . . Carded a career-low 73 in the first round of the Tar Heel Invitational . . . Named the 2014-15 recipient of the President's Award, the most prestigious academic award in the athletic department; the award recognizes the male and female graduating senior with the highest cumulative GPA and who has exhausted their eligibility in the 2014-15 school year . . . achieved Dean's List honors every semester and maintained an impressive 3.94 GPA . . . also earned the team's Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest cumulative GPA on the team.

Summer 2014
Took medalist honors at the 93rd annual Spring Lake Invitational, the oldest women's golf tournament in Michigan; won stroke play with a 67 and won three straight during match play, including a 6&5 victory over Britni Gielow, in the championship match . . . Placed eighth at the GAM Championships held at Spring Lake Country Club with a 151 (77-74).

2013-14 - Junior
Was limited to one tournament appearance during the 2013-14 season due to rehab following a non-golf related injury . . . tied for 46th place at the Mary Fossum Invitational with a 236 (77-78-81) in her only appearance of the season.

2012-13 - Sophomore
Started in nine tournaments and compiled a 77.36 scoring average (1,934 strokes in 25 rounds), which ranked fifth on the team ... Posted two top-20 finishes ... Named Academic All-Big Ten and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar ... Also named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team ... Placed 21st at the Mary Fossum Invitational with a 226 (77-74-75) ... Delivered her first top-20 finish by tying for 20th at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., with a 227 (76-77-74) ... Placed a career-high 18th at the Lady Buckeye Invitational by shooting a 233 (74-82-77) ... Competed in the starting lineup for the second straight season at the Big Ten Championships, tying for 47th place with a 238 (79-81-78).

Summer 2012
Tied for sixth at the GAM Championship, held at the Port Huron Golf Club.

2011-12 - Freshman
Won MSU's "Best First-Year Player" Award . . . Led all newcomers on the team with a 79.60 average (1,194 strokes in 15 rounds) in five tournaments . . . Compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA and was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team ... Competed as an individual in her collegiate debut at the Texas A&M MoMorial (Sept. 13-15) and tied for 52nd with a 241 (86-79-86) . . . Made the starting lineup for the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 17-18) and tied for 30th by carding a 235 (80-78-77) . . . Tied for 54th at the Central District Invitational (Feb. 20-21) in Parrish, Fla., with a 232 (79-76-77) . . . Placed a season-best 25th at the Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 21-22) with a 235 (78-79-78) . . . Was in the starting lineup at the Big Ten Championships and helped Michigan State win its second straight conference title.

Won the Randy Wise Open, an AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) event, in August 2010 at Warwick Hills Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich. . . . Advanced to match play in the 2010 U.S. Girls' Junior Golf Championship . . . Won the Truevision-Singha Junior Golf Championship in 2010 . . . Won the 20th Singha Thailand Amateur Open in the teenager flight and placed second overall . . . Has seen success at the Callaway World Junior Championships, tying for ninth in 2009 and 14th in 2010 . . . Invited to play in the Thailand Ladies Open two years in a row . . . Won the ISAT (International Schools Association of Thailand) Tournament, both team and individual . . . Won the Gary-Gilchrist Junior All-Star Tournament in 2009 . . . Represented the Thai National Team in the 2009 Queen Sirikit Cup (Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship) in Bali, Indonesia, the 2010 tournament in New Zealand, and the 2011 tournament in New Delhi, India . . . Won the 2008 Ambank Group International Golf Championship, both team and individual, in Malaysia . . . Won the 2007 Indonesian Junior Open Golf Championship . . . Took second at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship in 2006 . . . Won the 2005 SICC Junior International Golf Championship in Singapore . . . Compiled a 3.96 GPA for the 2009-10 academic year and earned "Outstanding Achievement" honors in several subjects.

I would like to have the telepathy and mind reading and control like one that Professor Xavier in X-Men has.

When did you first start playing golf?
I started when I was nine

What course did you learn to play on?
I learned from the driving range across the road from my house.

Favorite course?
The Quarry at Black Mountain and The Torrey Pines.

Favorite golf memory?
When I walk off the course, knowing that I have met my controllable goal.

How do you mark your golf ball and why?
I marked it with "JS" and a sun symbol on one side and a heart symbol on the other. The meaning just changed over time but recently the heart reminds me that I am playing the game that I love and the sun is to remind me that it is always a sunny day when I play golf and how fortunate I am to be able to play golf again, so I should treasure every moment of it. It is marked with red marker, because it is my favorite color.

Best thing about playing golf at MSU is...
To be able to get access to first-class facilities for practice and strengthening. To get support from all staffs who treat you like a family in all aspects that will help you achieve your goals. To have a great network, including teammates, alumni, donors, and classmates.

Favorite movie?
The Lord of the Ring, X-Men, Harry Potter, and About Time.

Lorena Ochua

Favorite club and why?
I like them all.

Favorite thing to do besides golf?
Watch movie and other sports, and learn how to cook (still learning)

What's your major and why?
Finance, because I would like to learn about investments.

Dream Vacation?
To go to Banff, Canada for a hiking/camping trip
