Kueny Remains in Hunt for Medalist Honors at Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - Senior Laura Kueny continued to lead the Michigan State women's golf team in the second round of the Regional Challenge Tuesday afternoon, carding a 2-over 71 to sit in a tie for third place heading into Wednesday's final round. In the team standings, the fifth-ranked Spartans shot a 310 and are in 11th place with a two-round total of 610. No. 9 USC leads the 15-team tournament, which features 11 top-25 programs, with a 580 (+12). Kueny, who collected three birdies and 10 pars on the day, is at even-par overall with a score of 142 (69-73). The Whitehall, Mich., native is just four shots back of Pepperdine's Lisa McCloskey with 18 holes left. Sophomore Lindsey Solberg carded MSU's second-best round for the second day in a row with a 5-over 76. Solberg is currently in a tie for 26th place at 8-over (74-76--150). Sitting a tie for 32nd place is junior Aimee Neff, who shot a 77 in the second round and is at 10-over (75-77-150) for the tournament. Freshman Caroline Powers and sophomore Shannon Warner each carded an 84 in the second round for the Spartans. Powers owns a score of 166 (82-84) through two rounds, while Warner is at 168 (84-84). The third and final round of the 2010 Regional Challenge is scheduled for Wednesday at the Palos Verdes Country Club. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
