No. 12 Spartan Women's Golf Tied for 13th Place at Regional Challenge

Caroline Powers is tied for 19th at the Regional Challenge after carding a 3-over 74 in Monday's first round.

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The No. 12 Michigan State women's golf team shot a 309 (+25) in the first round of the Regional Challenge on Monday at the Palos Verdes Country Club and is tied for 13th place in the 16-team field. The elite tournament features nine teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25, including six of the top 10 teams in the country.

Senior Caroline Powers led the Spartans with a 3-over 74 and sits in a tie for 19th place. Powers started on hole 10 and recorded a par and an eagle on the first two holes, but closed out the first nine holes at 2-over 38. Powers shot a 1-over 36 on her last nine holes to finish at 74.

Junior Allyssa Ferrell (40-38) and sophomore Jenny Sritragul (38-40) each compiled a 78, while sophomore Trisha Witherby rounded out the team scoring with a 79 (40-39).

Junior Christine Meier carded an 83 (42-41).

UCLA currently leads the field with a 288, followed by No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Florida at 290.

Live scoring of Tuesday's second round will be available at MSU will tee off at 11:30 a.m. ET on hole 10 along with No. 1 Washington and No. 18 Oklahoma State.
