No. 12 Spartan Women's Golf Places 15th at Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The No. 12 Michigan State women's golf team concluded play at the Regional Challenge on Wednesday at the Palos Verdes Country Club with a third-round score of 310. The Spartans placed 15th overall at the elite tournament, which featured nine teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25, with a 928 (309-309-310). Senior Caroline Powers led the Spartans by tying for ninth with a 7-over 220 (74-74-72), marking her 19th career top-10 finish. Powers posted her best round of the tournament on Wednesday with a 1-over 72, including three birdies. Junior Christine Meier also carded her best round at the Regional Challenge with a 6-over 77. Meier tied for 71st overall at 242 (83-82-77). Sophomore Jenny Sritragul tied for 71st along with Meier after compiling a 79 on Wednesday to finish with a 242 (78-85-79). Junior Allyssa Ferrell rounded out the team's scoring in the third round with an 82 and tied for 64th at 238 (78-78-82). Sophomore Trisha Witherby placed 68th with a 239 (79-75-85). UCLA won the team title with an 870 (288-291-291), and the Bruins' Erynne Lee claimed medalist honors at even-par 213 (72-72-69). MSU returns to action for the Central District Invitational Feb. 18-19 at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.
