Spartans Enter Final Round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl in Third Place
MSU is four shots back of the tournament leader Florida.
NEW ORLEANS - The 13th-ranked Michigan State women’s golf team stands in third place after two rounds of play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Spartans are 12-over-par 588 for the tournament after a 16-over-par 304 in Monday’s second round. The Spartans are four shots back of tournament leader and 18th-ranked Florida, and three shots behind No. 11 USC. MSU leads fourth-place North Carolina by three shots.
A day after shooting the lowest round of her a career – a 5-under-par 67 – Allyson Geer fired an even-par 72 on Monday to remain in second place. Geer was even on both the front and back nine as her 72 was the sixth-lowest score of the day at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.
Geer is one shot behind the leader, Sierra Brooks of Florida, and tied with USC’s Jennifer Chang for second place at 5-under-par 139.
Paz Marfa Sans shot a 4-over-par 76 on Monday and is tied for 12th place at 3-over-par 147.
Sarah Burnham dropped to 19th place after a 7-over-par 79 on Monday; she’s tied for 19th place at 5-over-par 149.
The Spartans will begin Tuesday’s final round at 9 a.m. ET.
