No. 24 Women's Golf In Third Place After 36 Holes at Lady Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 24 Michigan State women's golf team is in third place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational after shooting a 32-over-par 608 (305-303) through 36 holes on Saturday at the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club. Kent State leads the 12-team field with a 21-over 597.

Freshman Kelly Grassel led the Spartans on Saturday with a 5-over 149 (78-71) and is tied for second place, just two shots off the pace of current leader Jennifer Ha (Kent State). Grassel carded a 78 in her first round, but bounced back with an impressive 1-under 71 in her second 18 of the day to vault 22 spots up the leaderboard. The Chesterton, Ind., native delivered seven birdies during her second round, which marked her fifth under-par round of the season.

Red-shirt freshman Gabby Yurik is also in the mix for medalist honors, as she is five shots back with a 8-over 152 (76-76) and in a tie for eighth. Yurik is playing in her first tournament of the spring season and the first since the Mason Rudolph Championship (Sept. 20-22) in Franklin, Tenn.

Senior Allyssa Ferrell is in a tie for 18th place at 10-over 154 (76-78), while fellow senior Liz Nagel is tied for 28th at 156 (75-81). Nagel's 75 was the lowest first-round score for the Spartans.

Junior Lindsey McPherson shot a 158 (80-78) and is tied for 38th, and senior Christine Meier is tied for 48th with a 161 (79-82).



The third and final round of the Lady Buckeye Invitational is set for Sunday. MSU will begin to tee off at 9:30 a.m. on hole No. 1 along with Ohio State and Kent State.
