Women's Golf in Ninth at Hawkeye Classic
Spartans just six shots out of sixth.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State womenis golf team stands in ninth place out of 10 teams after shooting a 322-319=641 on the first day of the Hawkeye Invitational at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
Freshman Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) led the Spartans with a 79-76=155 and stands in 11th place individually as she pursues Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. Gant is just one stroke behind 10th place and just seven shots back of the three players tied for first.
The Spartans stand just six shots behind sixth-place Iowa after the first 36 holes, which were delayed two hours by frost in Iowa City. Play resumes tomorrow with the final 18 holes.
