COLUMBUS, Ohio - After 36 holes of play on Saturday at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, the Michigan State women's golf team trails No. 10 Purdue by just one shot heading into Sunday's final round.
The Spartans shot a 308 in the first round and improved by 10 shots in the second round with a 298 to finish at 606 for the day. Purdue is at 605 (310-295).
Junior Liz Nagel, who finished a career-best fourth at last year's Lady Buckeye Invitational, is tied for second place with a 4-over 148 (75-73). Nagel posted three birdies in her second round and is just two shots back from leader Laura Gonzalez of Purdue.
After shooting a season-high 81 in the first round, senior Caroline Powers bounced back with a 1-over 73 in the second round to close at 10-over 154 for the day. Powers is currently tied for 13th.
Sophomore Jenny Sritragul is tied for 22nd at 12-over 156 (74-82), while junior Allyssa Ferrell is tied for 31st at 157 (78-79). Junior Christine Meier is tied for 35th with a 158 (83-75) and sophomore Trisha Witherby is tied for 49th at 161 (84-77).
The third and final round of the Lady Buckeye Invitational is scheduled for a shotgun start on Sunday at 10 a.m. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com.
