Michigan State Women's Golf Remains In Second Place After Third Round

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Michigan State women's golf team is in second place after three rounds at the 2008 Big Ten Championships at the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, Pa. The Spartans shot a third-round score of seven-over par 295, the second-best team score of the day, for a three-round total of 26-over par 890 (292-303-295). Purdue, however, remains in first place after a third-round score of two-under par 286 for a three-round total of eight-over par 872 (298-288-286). Sophomore Laura Kueny leads the Spartans through three rounds with a six-over par 222 (78-73-71), good for a tie for fourth place. Kueny's one-under par 71 in the third round was also the best Spartan score of the day. She stood at one-over on the round through 14 holes but birdied two of her final four holes. Freshman Aimee Neff stands just one shot back of Kueny in sixth place with a seven-over par 223 (73-75-75). Senior Sara Brown shot one-over par 73 on Saturday to move into a tie for ninth place at nine-over par 225 (70-82-73). After three rounds, senior Jordyn Wells is tied for 27th at 15-over par 231 (72-79-80), followed by junior Holly Niederkohr (80-76-78) and freshman Michelle Bowles (77-81-76), who are both tied for 36th at 18-over par 234. Following Purdue and Michigan State are Ohio State (39-over 903), Indiana (44-over 908) Wisconsin (46-over 910), Michigan (46-over 910), Northwestern (52-over 916), Minnesota (59-over 923), Penn State (60-over 924), Iowa (60-over 924) and Illinois (70-over 934).
