Allison Fouch Tied For Seventh Heading Into Final Round At NCAA Championships

OPELIKA, Ala. - Michigan State senior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) sits in a three-way tie for seventh place after 54 holes of the 2004 NCAA Championships at the par 72, 6,215-yard Grand National Golf Course in Opelika, Ala., on Thursday, May 20. Fouch, who will look to become the first Spartan to record a top-10 finish at the national championships, shot a 1-over 73 on Thursday. Fouch's third round consisted of four birdies (holes 3, 11, 14 and 17), four bogeys and a double bogey. She enters Friday's final round with a 54-hole total of 215 (70-72-73). UCLA's Susie Mathews and Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin hold down the top spot on the leader board with an 8-under 208. California's Sarah Huarte is third with a 7-under 209, while three players are tied for fourth at 2-under 214. Overall, Michigan State women's golf is tied with Texas A&M after three rounds with a 910 (302-310-298). UCLA moved on top of the leader board with an 858 (289-283-286), while Oklahoma State is second with an 863 (288-293-282) and Duke is third with an 865 (289-284-292). Senior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) is tied for 87th place with a 230 (75-83-72). After shooting an 83 on Wednesday, Martin improved 11 shots on Thursday with a 72, including five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in her round. Senior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) is tied for 102nd place with a 234 (79-78-77), including a 77 in Thursday's third round.
Freshman Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) and sophomore Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) round out the Spartan line-up. Rose is tied for 118th place with a 239 (78-77-84), while Burleigh sits in 119th place with a 241 (82-83-76). Burleigh fired a 76 on Thursday, improving seven shots on her Wednesday round of 83.
The final round of the NCAA Championships is set for Friday, May 21 with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CDT.
