Second Round Suspended for Spartan Women's Golf at NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. - The Michigan State women's golf team's second round at the NCAA Championships was suspended due to weather on Wednesday evening and will resume Thursday morning at 7:25 a.m. With three Spartans left to complete their rounds, the Spartans are currently tied for 13th place in the 24-team field at 14-over-par.

MSU is one of six teams that did not complete its second round on Wednesday. Following the completion of their second round, the Spartans will begin their third round from hole No. 1 at 8:39 a.m. on Thursday.

The 2013 NCAA Women's Golf Championships are being held at the par 72, 6,372-yard University of Georgia Golf Course. MSU carded a 10-over 298 in Tuesday's first round.

Sophomore Trisha Witherby carded a 1-under 71 in the second round and is tied for 38th place with a 3-over 147 (76-71). Witherby collected five birdies in registering her lowest career round as a Spartan.

Junior Liz Nagel was the other Spartan to finish her round on Wednesday. Nagel improved by four shots from Tuesday's first round and tallied a 4-over 74 in the second round; she is at 8-over 152 (78-74) through 36 holes.

With one hole left to complete, junior Allyssa Ferrell is at 1-over 68 and senior Caroline Powers is at 2-over 69; the 18th hole is a 488-yard par 5.

Junior Christine Meier, who led MSU with an even-par 72 in Tuesday's first round, is at 3-over 65 with two holes left to finish in her second round.
