Spartans Tied for 16th at NCAA Women's Golf Championships

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The Michigan State women's golf team shot its best round of the NCAA Championships with a 6-over 294 in the third round on Thursday at the Legends Club North Course. Overall, the Spartans are tied for 16th in the 24-team field with a 901 (296-311-294).
The round of 294 was the second best in school history at the NCAA Championships (school record: 289 in 2002).
Junior Caroline Powers carded her lowest score of the week with a 1-over 73 to lead the Spartans. Powers collected three birdies on the day and is now tied for 27th place on the individual leaderboard with a 6-over 222 (75-74-73).
Senior Lindsey Solberg is also tied for 27th at 222 (72-76-74) after shooting a 2-over 74 on Thursday.
Sophomore Allyssa Ferrell tied with Powers for the best round of the day for MSU at 1-over 73. The Edgerton, Wis., native had four birdies, tying for the most on the team along with Christine Meier. Through 54 holes, Ferrell is tied for 82nd with a total of 230 (76-81-73).
Meier rounded out the team's scoring on Thursday with a 2-over 74 and is also at 230 (74-82-74) for the tournament.
Liz Nagel is tied for 111th with a 235 (75-80-80).
The fourth and final round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships is set for Friday. The Spartans will tee off at 9:28 a.m. ET at hole No. 10 along with Pepperdine and Vanderbilt; live scoring will be available on NCAA.com.
