FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The No. 22 Michigan State women's golf team is competing in the most elite collegiate tournament of the weekend at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, as the 15-team field features eight teams in the Golfweek preseason Top 20. The Spartans shot an 8-over-par 296 as a team in Friday's first round and are currently tied for eighth place, along with No. 2 Alabama and No. 4 Duke.
No. 8 Arizona State (285) leads the tournament by four shots over No. 3 UCLA (289) heading into Saturday's second round.
Senior Allyssa Ferrell paced the Spartans on Friday with a 1-under 71 (36-35) and is tied for seventh place. Ferrell led MSU with four birdies in her round.
Senior Christine Meier rounded out the team scoring with a 5-over 77 (39-38).
Michigan State will tee off at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday from hole No. 1 along with North Carolina and Alabama. Live scoring will be available at birdiefire.com.
