Women's Golf Tied for Sixth at Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Senior Caroline Powers shot a 1-under 71 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club and is currently tied for first place on the individual leaderboard. As a team, the Spartans are tied for sixth after shooting a 14-over 302.
The 15-team field features six teams ranked in the Golfworld/National Golf Coaches Association Preseason Top 25, including eighth-ranked and host Vanderbilt. Texas carded a 6-over 294 and leads the tournament by four shots over No. 14 Arizona.
Powers, who started on the 10th hole, was 1-over through her first nine holes with a 37, but recorded two birdies and seven pars on holes 1-9 to finish at 71. Powers is tied for first along with Olafia Kristinsdottir of Wake Forest and Briana Mao of Virginia.
Sophomore Trisha Witherby is tied for 18th with a 3-over 75 (36-39), while junior Allyssa Ferrell is tied for 37th with a 5-over 77 (40-37). Ferrell birdied her last hole of the afternoon with a 4 on the par-5, 455-yard ninth hole.
Playing as an individual, Jenny Sritragul is tied for 54th with a 79 (39-40).
