Women's Golf In Third Place After Day One At Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After two rounds of the Mary Fossum Invitational on Saturday, the Michigan State women's golf team is in third place with a team score of 595 (297-298), four strokes behind leader Kent State (301-290--591). Notre Dame is in second at 593 (298-295).
The 27th annual tournament is being held at MSU's Forest Akers West Golf Course; the third and final round is set for Sunday at 9 a.m.
Sophomore Caroline Powers led the Spartans on Saturday with a 1-over 145 and is in third place. Powers carded a 1-under 71 in the first round and followed that effort with a 2-over 74 in the second round.
Junior Lindsey Solberg is right behind Powers in fourth place. Although Solberg shot a 77 to begin the day, she bounced back with a 2-under 70 and carded six birdies in the afternoon session to finish with a 147 (+3).
Senior Aimee Neff is also in the top 10 on the leaderboard, as she sits in eighth place with a 149 (73-76).
MSU also had four golfers competing as individuals, and all four are tied in the top 25. Natalie Brehm is ninth with a 150 (77-73), Shannon Warner is 12th with a 151 (78-73), and Liz Nagel (79-76--155) and Maddi Massa (79-76--155) are both tied at 25th.
Notre Dame's Nicole Zhang (69-67--136) leads the individual leaderboard by seven strokes going into the final round.
