Spartans in the Top Three at the Windy City Collegiate Heading Into Final Round
Sarah Burnham and Paz Marfa Sans are tied for third place at 4-under-par.
HIGHLAND PARK, Illinois - The Michigan State women’s golf team is in third place after two rounds at the Windy City Collegiate Championship in Highland Park, Illinois. The Spartans shot a 1-under-par 283 in round one and then a 3-over-par 287 in round two, finishing Monday 2-over-par 570.
The Spartans are 10 shots back of Oklahoma State (8-under-par 560) and two strokes behind Arizona State (even-par 568) at the 6,200-yard Northmoor Country Club.
Sarah Burnham and Paz Marfa Sans are tied for third place at 4-under-par 138. Burnham shot a 1-under-par 70 in round one and then birdied three of the last four holes in the second round to card a 3-under-par 68.
Marfa Sans was 3-under-par on the back nine of her opening round en route to a 3-under-par 68 – the second-best round of her career. She posted a 1-under-par 70 in the second round with the help of two birdies and eight pars on the back nine.
Allyson Geer gave the Spartans three rounds in the 60s on the day with an opening-round 2-under-par 69. She had a 3-over-par 74 in round two and is tied for 14th with at 1-over-par 143.
Linnea Strom leads the tournament at 6-under-par 136.
Round three will get underway on Tuesday morning.
