CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 22 Michigan State women's golf team shot a 289 in Sunday's final round of the Tar Heel Invitational to finish sixth overall at the elite tournament, which featured 13 teams ranked in the top 30 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. The round of 289 ties for the 10th-best single round in school history - the Spartans also shot a 289 on Friday - and put MSU at 6-over 870 (289-292-289) for the three rounds.
Sophomore Caroline Powers led Michigan State by recording the second-best 54-hole tournament score in program history with a 5-under 211 (71-71-69). Powers tied her career-best round with a 69 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 10th overall on the individual leaderboard, marking her fourth career top-10 showing. True freshman Allyssa Ferrell, playing in her first collegiate tournament, carded a 228 (74-80-74).
No. 3 Alabama claimed the team tournament title - which MSU won last year - with a tournament record 28-under 836.
