No. 8 Spartan Women's Golf in 11th Place at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 8 Michigan State women's golf team shot a 14-over 302 in the first round of the Tar Heel Invitational on Friday and is currently in 11th place. The elite 18-team field features 12 teams in the Golfweek Top 50, including six in the Top 25. Junior Christine Meier and sophomore Jenny Sritragul led the Spartans with a 2-over 74 and are tied for 20th. Meier, who started her round on hole No. 10, began the day with a bogey, but bounced back with a par and three straight birdies over her next four holes. She finished with a 35 for her first nine and had a 39 on holes 1-9. Sritragul tallied two birdies on holes 10-18 and made the turn at an even 36 before collecting a 38 to close her round at 74. Liz Nagel carded a 3-over 75 (37-38) and Caroline Powers had a 79 (39-40) to round out the team scoring for Michigan State. Junior Allyssa Ferrell shot an 80 (39-41). The second round of the Tar Heel Invitational continues Saturday at UNC's Finley Golf Course. The Spartans will tee off at 10:30 a.m. on hole 10 with Florida and Louisville.
