CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team shot a 292 in the second round of the Tar Heel Invitational on Saturday and is in 14th place heading into Sunday's final round. The Spartans are 16-over-par (300-292--592) for the tournament. The elite 18-team field features 10 teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 and 16 in the top 50.

Freshman Kelly Grassel posted her second consecutive round of 1-under 71 on Saturday and is tied for sixth place at 2-under 142 (71-71), five shots behind leader Ashlan Ramsey of Clemson.

Senior Liz Nagel shot an even-par 72 and moved up to 22nd on the individual leaderboard at 2-over 146 (74-72).

Senior Allyssa Ferrell and junior Trisha Witherby are both tied for 66th place at 8-over 152. Witherby tied for the second-lowest round of the day for MSU with a 72, while Ferrell had a 77.

Lindsey McPherson is at 160 (81-79).

No. 7 Duke leads the tournament after 36 holes with an 8-under 568 (286-282).
