CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The eighth-ranked Michigan State women's golf team placed 10th at the Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday after finishing with a 54-hole score of 900 (302-298-300). The elite 18-team field featured 12 teams in the Golfweek Top 50, including six in the Top 25.
Junior Liz Nagel led the way for the Spartans with a 4-over 220 (75-74-71) - the second-lowest 54-hole score of her career - to tie for 12th. Nagel's Sunday total of 1-under 71, which included three birdies, was her best single round of the season.
Christine Meier rounded out the team scoring on Sunday with a 78 to finish in a tie for 47th at 229 (74-77-78).
Allyssa Ferrell closed with a 79 and totaled a 234 (80-75-79) for the tournament.
No. 21 and host North Carolina won the Tar Heel Invitational with an 872 (288-293-291), while Florida's Isabelle Lendl claimed medalist honors with a 210 (70-71-69).
The Spartans return to action for their final fall tournament, the Landfall Tradition, on Oct. 26-28 at Wilmington, N.C.
