Marfa Sans’ 64 Sets Tar Heel Invitational Record
Marfa Sans' 64 is the second best score in school history.
CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina - Paz Marfa Sans shot a Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational and UNC Finley Golf Course record 8-under-par 64 to lead the Michigan State women’s golf team in round two of the tournament on Saturday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. As a team, the Spartans shot a 6-under-par 282 to move up one spot into 10th place at 3-over par 579 (297-282).
Duke continues to lead the tournament at 22-under-par 554 (283-271), 10 shots ahead of second-place Alabama.
Marfa Sans started her record day with three consecutive birdies and added three more on the front nine, making the turn at 5-under-par. On the back nine, she parred six straight before picking up three more birdies to end her round and turn in an 8-under-par 64.
The 64 is the second-best score in school history, one shot shy of Sarah Burnham’s 63 at last year’s Big Ten Championship.
For the tournament, Marfa Sans is 3-under-par 141 (77-64) and tied for 14th place.
Sarah Burnham continued her solid play with a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday. She’s 5-under-par 139 (69-70) and tied for fifth heading into Sunday’s final round.
Allyson Geer improved by two strokes over her first round score, shooting an even-par 72 on Saturday. She is 2-over-par 146 (74-72) and tied for 41st.
Round three will begin for the Spartans on Sunday morning.
