Spartans in 10th Place at Landfall Tradition
Junior Trisha Witherby leads team with a 3-over 75 in the first round.

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team shot a 21-over-par 309 on Friday in the first round of the Landfall Tradition and is in 10th place in the 18-team field. The elite tournament, which is being held at the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall, features 14 teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 50, including nine in the top 25.
Junior Trisha Witherby led the Spartans in the first round with a 3-over 75 (37-38) and had three birdies on the day. She heads into Saturday's second round tied for 19th place on the individual leaderboard.
No. 14 Alabama leads the tournament by 10 shots over No. 4 Duke after carding a 3-under 285 in the first round. Alabama's Stephanie Meadow shot a 2-under 70 and leads the individual leaderboard by one stroke.
