No. 12 Spartan Women's Golf In Sixth Place at Landfall Tradition
Caroline Powers tied for fifth place with a 1-under 71.

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The No. 12 Michigan State women's golf team is in sixth place at the Landfall Tradition after carding a 297 in Friday's first round. The 17-team field, which is being held at the Country Club of Landfall, features nine schools ranked in the Golfweek Top 25.
The Spartans are five shots back from leader Oklahoma State (292).
Senior Caroline Powers led the team in the first round with a 71 and is tied for fifth place. Powers opened with a 1-over 37 on the front nine, but posted three pars on the back nine for a 2-under 34 to close at 1-under-par. Powers is four shots back of current leader Kimberly Kaufman of Oklahoma State, who shot a 5-under 67 on Friday.
Liz Nagel rounded out the team's scoring with a 77 and is tied for 43rd.
Christine Meier shot an 81 (43-38).
