KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The No. 21 Michigan State women's golf team will play in the championship bracket of the Hooters Match Play Tournament after finishing eighth during stroke-play competition Sunday afternoon at the Ginn Reunion Resort.

All of the tournament's 16 teams competed in a 36-hole stroke-play competition, with the results determining the seeds for match play; the top eight teams advanced to the championship bracket. Michigan State shot a 590 (293-297), one stroke better than No. 22 Kent State and No. 4 Georgia.

One of the most prestigious collegiate events in the nation, every team in the field is ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, including seven in the top 10. The Spartans will face top-ranked UCLA in the first round of the match play tournament Monday morning.

"It's quite an accomplishment to finish in the top eight considering all of the great teams that are down here," said head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "Our goal all along was to win the match play tournament and we still have that opportunity. I think this says a lot about the team and where our program stands nationally. We know we have a tough challenge ahead with UCLA, but in match play anything can happen. If we make some birdies and make our putts, we'll be fine."

Junior Laura Kueny led the Spartans, tying for fourth place with a 4-under 140 (71-69). Her score of 69 in the second round matches her career best single-round performance.

Freshman Lindsey Solberg shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and finished tied for 21st with a 146 for the afternoon (71-75).

Sophomore Aimee Neff carded a 149 (74-79) to tie for 35th, while classmate Michelle Bowles shot a 155 (77-78) to tie for 61st. Freshman Shannon Warner rounded out the lineup with a 166 (78-88).
