Oct. 5, 1997 Women's Golf Claims Fourth at Wolverine InvitationalEAST LANSING, Mich. -- Led by the continued impressive play of junior Meggan Schumaker (Columbia City, Ind.) and freshman Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.), the Michigan State women's golf team earned its third top-five finish (out of four tournaments) of the fall season this weekend at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. Schumaker led Michigan State for the third week in a row with a tie for second-place individual finish, the best of her career. She shot a three-round 229 (equalling her career best) and fired a career-low 75 in the second round. Schumaker was just five strokes off the leader, Indiana's Erin Carney. Gant continues to impress as a freshman, tying for sixth place with a 237. It is her second top 10 finish this fall. She shot a two-over-par 75 to open the tournament Saturday morning.
