Women's Golf in Fifth at Lady Buckeye
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State has two golfers in the top 18, leading the Spartan women's golf team to a fifth-place first-day standing out of 13 teams at the Lady Buckeye in Columbus, Ohio. The Spartans fired a 318-311=629 as a team, just two shots behind fourth-place Wisconsin and 38 strokes behind leading Ohio State.
Junior Meggan Schumaker (Columbia City, Ind.) fired a pair of 76s, equalling her best round of the season, to tie for ninth place after one day of competition. Freshman sensation Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) posted a 79-76=155 and is just three strokes behind her teammate in a tie for 18th.
The Spartans received solid contributions from junior Kellie Dennis (Jackson, Mich.), who stands in a tie for 24th with a 81-78=159, and junior April Holly (Royal Oak, Mich.), who shot an 82-85=167.
Competition continues with 18 holes tomorrow.
