EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's golf team will host the 12th annual Central District Invitational Monday-Tuesday (Feb. 20-21) at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.
MSU hosted the inaugural Central District Invitational in October of 2000. Since 2002, the Spartans have hosted the tournament in February. The Spartans have claimed two team titles (2002, 2008) and two individual medalist honors (Stacy Snider, 2002; Sara Brown, 2008) at the CDI.
This year's 15-team field features Coastal Carolina, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, No. 6 LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, No. 7 North Carolina, Northwestern, No. 21 Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, UCF and No. 5 Vanderbilt. The teams will shoot 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
The Spartans, ranked 26th in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Regional Challenge earlier this week at the Palos Verdes Country Club in California. All 15 teams in the field were ranked in the Golfweek Top 50, including 10 in the Top 25.
Junior Caroline Powers led the way for the Spartans out West with the 13th top-10 finish of her career. Powers shot a school single-round record with a 68 in the second round and closed at 8-over 221 (75-68-78) to tie for 10th. She is currently ranked 11th in the country by Golfweek.
