PARRISH, Fla. - The No.21 Michigan State women's golf team finds itself in tenth place after day one of the Central District Classic in Parrish, Fla. at the River Wilderness Golf Club. The Spartans posted a two-round team total of 621 (309-312). Pacing the Spartans for the day was senior Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.), who is ranked No. 78 nationally. Her two round total of 153 (77-76) puts her in a tie for twentieth entering Sunday.

Junior Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was the next best MSU golfer on the day which a score of 155 (79-76), and she sits in a tie for 29th. Sophomore Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.) sits one stroke behind Meikle in a tie for 35th place at 156 (78-78).

Junior Mandi McConnell (Grand Blanc, Mich.), ranked No. 99, had the best round of the day for the Spartans when she opened the tournament with a round of 75. She followed that with an 82 and is currently in a tie for 41st place at 157. Junior Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) shot 169 (83-86).

Competing as an individual for the Spartans is freshman Holly Niederkohr (Marysville, Ohio). She carded a two-round total of 155 (79-76) which puts her in a tie for 29th place.

Leading the tournament after the opening day is Baylor with a score of 600 (302-298). Their second round of 298 was the only sub-300 team total on the day. Topping the individual standings is Alice Kim of Northwestern who is at even-par 144 (70-74).
