Geer Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Feb. 21, 2018

EAST LANSING - Michigan State sophomore Allyson Geer has been named the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday. It’s the first weekly conference honor of Geer’s career.

Geer tied for second place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, which took place Feb. 18-20 at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans. Geer ended the tournament 3-under-par 213 and was one of just five golfers in the 17-team field that finished under par.

Geer started the tournament with the best round of her competitive career – a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday. She carded an even-par 72 in the second round and then a 2-over-par 74 in Tuesday’s final round as the 213 matched the second-lowest tournament score of her career. The second place finish tied the best of her career and was her second of the season.

As a team, the Spartans tied for third place.

It marks the second straight week a Spartan has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week as Sarah Burnham garnered the honor on Feb. 14.
