EAST LANSING, Mich. - In the final tune up before next week's Big Ten Championships, the No. 24 Michigan State women's golf team is traveling to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend (April 19-20) for the 34th annual Lady Buckeye Invitational. The 12-team tournament is being held at the par 72, 6,268 Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
The Spartans are the highest ranked team in the field, which also includes Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kent State, Nebraska, Ohio, Ohio State, Purdue, Texas Tech and Toledo.
The format is play six, count four, which is also the format being used at the Big Ten Championships. MSU's lineup consists of Christine Meier, Liz Nagel, Allyssa Ferrell, Kelly Grassel, Gabby Yurik and Lindsey McPherson.
MSU will play 36 holes on Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., followed by 18 holes on Sunday with tee times on holes No. 1 and 10. Michigan State is paired with Ohio State and Kansas on Saturday.
"We're excited to get to Columbus - we always love playing the Scarlet," said MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "We always seem to have a lot of success at Ohio State. There are a lot of great teams there, so it's a nice warm-up for us before the Big Ten Championships. We're looking forward to getting back on the road and facing some good competition."
The Spartans are the defending champions of the Lady Buckeye Invitational after posting a winning score of 904 (308-298-298) last season. MSU has won the event four times, including three under Slobodnik-Stoll (2005, 2011, 2013).
The 2014 Big Ten Championships are set for April 25-27 in French Link, Ind.
