EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's golfer Kelly Grassel has been named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Grassel placed runner-up at the Lady Buckeye Invitational last weekend in Columbus, Ohio, with a 3-over-par 219 (78-71-70).

After shooting a first-round 78, Grassel bounced back with a 1-under 71 in the second round on Saturday, including seven birdies. She tied her career low with a 2-under 70 on Sunday. The Chesterton, Ind., product tallied four birdies in her third round, including three on the front nine, and collected 12 for the tournament.

Grassel ranks third on the Spartans with a 75.20 scoring average and tied for first with six under-par rounds. She also ranks tied for second on the team with 50 birdies.

Grassel will be competing in her first Big Ten Championships this week (April 25-27) in French Lick, Ind.
