Three Women's Golfers Qualify for U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship

Complete U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifying Results EAST LANSING, Mich. - Three Michigan State women's golfers have qualified to participate in the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship held June 22-27 at the Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass. Rising juniors Natalie Brehm (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) and Aimee Neff (Carmel, Ind.), along with incoming freshman Caroline Powers (Bowling Green, Ohio), all qualified last week. Brehm shot a 71 at College Fields in Okemos, Mich., during sectional qualifying, while Neff carded a 72. Powers came in first with a 76 at the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Brecksville, Ohio. The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship is one of the 13 National Championships conducted by the United States Golf Association. The format for the event begins with state level qualifying at over 40 sites throughout the United States. Approximately 156 players will qualify to compete for the 64 spots in the Match Play portion of the Championship. Match Play will begin on Wednesday, June 24 and competition concludes with the 36-hole championship match on Saturday, June 27. The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship began in 1977 at Yahara Hills Golf Club in Madison, Wis. The WAPL is open to female golfers who have been bona fide public-course players since Jan. 1 of the current championship year. The competition is open to any bona fide public-course player whose USGA Handicap Index does not exceed 18.4.
