EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Spartan All-American Caroline Powers, who recently completed her record-setting career at Michigan State, has received a sponsor exemption to play in the LPGA's Marathon Classic on July 18-21 in Sylvania, Ohio. The tournament will be held at the Highland Meadows Golf Club.
Powers, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio, made her pro debut this past weekend at the Decatur-Forsyth Classic on the Symetra Tour and tied for 10th place with a 5-under-par 211 (71-71-69). She qualified for the U.S. Open last month and will participate in the 68th annual tournament on June 27-30 at the Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
The most decorated women's golfer in Michigan State history, Powers completed her career as the school's all-time record holder in scoring average (74.26) and owns the top three single-season scoring averages in program history, including her record 73.53 she set as a sophomore. Named the 2013 Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Year, Powers posted six top-10 finishes as a senior and helped lead Michigan State to a ninth-place showing at the NCAA Championships, the best ever in school history.
