EAST LANSING, MI -- Kasey Gant, a freshman on this past year's Michigan State women's golf team, is part of five-member contingent that will represent the United States in the seventh annual World University Golf Championship, August 9-13, in KwaZula Natal, South Africa. The 72-hole tournament will be played at the San Larneer Golf Estate.
At least 15 countries will be represented at the Championship, the first ever held in South Africa. Joining Gant on the team is M.C. Mullen (Iowa), Marissa Wihlern (Ohio State), Jenny Gray (Indiana) and Broke Lowrance (Texas Tech). Coaching the USA team will be Diane Thomason of the University of Iowa.
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Gant enjoyed an outstanding rookie year with the Spartans, earning All-Big Ten honors while bringing home the league's Freshman of the Year Award. She won two tournaments and set three school records during the course of the year including best single-round score (69), three-round tournament score (216) and best four-round tournament score (302).
