THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. - A number of former and current Spartans completed action at the three-round Michigan PGA Women's Open Wednesday afternoon at Crystal Mountain Resort.
Rising junior Liz Nagel was the top amateur in the event and finished in seventh place overall with a 5-over 221 (75-74-72). Nagel carded her best round of the tournament with an even-par 72 on Wednesday.
Former Spartan All-American and defending Michigan PGA Women's Open Champion Laura Kueny tied for fourth place with a 1-over 217. After shooting a 7-over 79 in Monday's first round, Kueny charged up the leaderboard with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday and a 4-under 68 in the final round.
Katie Burnett of Brunswick, Ga., won the event - which features a mix of professionals and amateurs - with an 11-under 205.
Other current Spartans that played in the tournament were Trisha Witherby (tied for 18th with a 228), Christine Meier (tied for 21st with a 229), Lindsey McPherson (tied for 44th with a 244), Mariah Massa (46th with a 245), Soleil Singh (55th with a 257) and Mackenzie Johnson (tied for 56th with a 262). Incoming freshman Gabby Yurik tied for 33rd with a 236.
Spartan head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll tied for 35th with a 238 (80-79-79).
In addition to Kueny, former Spartans that competed in the tournament included Sue Ertl (tied for 12th with a 226) and Natalie Brehm (tied for 27th with a 232).
