EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Golf Coaches Association of America announced their 2014 Team Academic Awards presented by Farmers Insurance on Wednesday. Michigan State women's golf was one of 141 teams that earned All-Academic Team recognition.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year and must average to a cumulative GPA 3.00.
Women's golf closed out the 2013-14 season by picking up its third Big Ten Championship title in four years and 11th in school history. The Spartans went on to place fifth at the NCAA West Regional, qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row. Overall, the Spartans carded their lowest-ever score at the NCAA Championships with a 58-over-par 1178 (305-283-302-288) to place 20th overall.
For the third consecutive year, the Michigan State women's golf team was honored with the Athletic Director's Award at the Spartan Academic Excellence Gala for achieving the highest team cumulative grade-point average after the 2013 fall semester. The women's golf team boasted a department-high cumulative GPA of 3.472 with all eligible members on the team qualifying for the gala for the second year in a row. The team also produced a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and six Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the academic year.
